A few minutes down the mountain from the retreat, Cahuilla Tewanet Vista Point is the kind of stop you almost drive past — and shouldn’t. Pull off Highway 74 and the view opens up fast: the desert floor drops away thousands of feet below, framed by the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto peaks. Interpretive panels tell the story of the Cahuilla people who have called this land home for generations, giving the view some weight beyond the photo. There’s no ticket, no ranger, no rush — just a low stone wall, a bench, and the wind. Go in the late afternoon when the light turns the canyon gold, or early morning when the air is still cool and the haze hasn’t settled in. It’s a five-minute stop that’s easy to fold into a longer drive along the Pines to Palms Highway, but give yourself a little longer than you plan to. Once you’re up there, most guests find themselves lingering.
